Rating: - great for the matches, the documentry, not so much

I just finished watching The Rise & Fall of WCW DVD. I will have to say i got it moreso for the match content, as opposed to the documentary, so as far as the matches go, it was a prety good selection. Sure, they could have put other more significant matches on the DVD, (Sting vs Hogan at Starrcade would have been more significant than Rhodes vs Windham, although we have seen Sting/Hogan on other releases.)
As for the documentary, if you look on the internet, you can find online scources which tell a better story then the 90 min they put inot the documentary. Still, i'd recommend it if you were an old school WCW fan

Rating: - so so

This had the potential of being the WWE'S best collection but, it falls a little flat for me. One, the doc left out soooo much, I was disappointed. No real Mid-Atlantic footage and, they have a TON of it!!! No real GCW footage..and, they have a TON!!! 2, WHERE WAS THE GREAT HOGAN-GOLDBERG MATCH from Nitro??? they could have left off the Syxx-Eddie match. No real good bonus features...that sucked!!! On e the positive, it was good to include Jim Crockett, David Crockett...no mention whatsoever of Tony Schvione(sad) I'm sure if they had a little more fan input, It would have been a great DVD. As they are so many good stories and matches from WCW. Kind of treated it like they treated WCW when they bought them. Like misused step-children.....

Rating: - I would have to agree

First and foremost, the Rise and Fall of ECW is a much better documentary then this DVD. That is not saying that the WWE had plenty to work with when they were collaborating and producing this DVD. I thought that the WWE did an excellent job in establishing the RISE of the WCW. There was a couple things on the DVD that I did not particularly know my self, and I thought that it worked out. Where the DVD fails is in the FALL category. I felt that the FALL of WCW was rushed. I thought they kind of felt to themselves that they needed to wrap up the DVD and just hit some of the highpoints, such as Vince Russo and Kevin Nash booking the company into the ground.

The match selection is an absolute joke. There are no major contributing WCW matches on these DVDs. I guess if you want to see a good WCW match you are going to have to buy the on demand service.

This DVD is for the true hardcore WCW fan, not the casual fan.

THE DOC WAS OK. THEY DIDN'T SPEND ENOUGH TIME ON THE RISE OF THE NWO, GOLDBERG, AND STING AS WELL AS ALL THE EXCELLENT WRESTLERS AND CRUISERWEIGHTS THAT MADE THE SHOW OK TO WATCH IN THE FIRST PLACE. I WAS NEVER A HUGE WCW FAN IN THE LATE 90'S. I ALWAYS STUCK WITH WWE BUT WHEN I STARTED WATCHING WRESTLING IN THE 80'S THE NWA WAS WHAT I WATCHED SO I WAS GLAD TO SEE THEM START WITH IT. IT WAS ALSO GOOD TO SEE JIMMY CROCKETT. THE MATCHES ON DISC 2 WERE ALL PRETTY GOOD. THEY COULD HAVE PUT MORE ON LIKE RUDE VS. STEAMBOAT'S IRON MAN FROM BEACH BLAST 92 OR STING VS. FLAIR FROM BASH 90 BUT I ENJOYED THOSE MATCHES. I COULD HAVE GONE WITHOUT THE HOGAN/FLAIR MATCH AGAIN. DON'T GET ME WRONG I LOVE FLAIR BUT HOGAN ON THE OTHER HAND DOESN'T REALLY FALL INTO FLAIR'S LEAGUE AS A WRESTLER. DISC 3 COULD HAVE USED SOME WORK. I WISH I WOULD HAVE BEEN DEVOTED MORE TO BETTER MATCHES. IF I NEVER HAVE TO SEE DDP/MALONE VS. HOGAN/RODMAN AGAIN ITS TO SOON. OVERALL I THINK THE DVD WAS OK. I THOUGHT IT PAINTED A PICTURE OF BISCHOFF AS THE WORLDS SMARTEST MAN WHICH HE IS A GOOD BUSINESS MAN. HE COULDN'T HAVE DONE WHAT HE DID IF HE WASN'T, BUT THE FACT THAT WCW HAD ALL THESE GREAT IDEAS AND STORYLINES THAT NEVER HAD A PAYOFF IS ONE OF THE REASONS IT IS NOW DEAD. I WOULD HAVE LIKED TO SEE THE STORY GO ON A LITTLE LONGER WITH MORE OF THE REASONS IT BECAME THE POWERHOUSE IT WAS AND WHY IT FELL SO FAST. I WOULD HOPE ALSO THE ONES IN POWER AT TNA WOULD LOOK AT THIS DVD AND THINK ABOUT HOW ALOT OF THEIR IDEAS AND STORYLINES HEAVYLY RESEMBLE WCW OF 2000. IF THEY SEE THAT THEN THEY SHOULD START FOCUSING ON THE STORYLINE INSTEAD OF SHOCK VALUE AND STUPID CRAP. AND OH YEAH BY THE WAY TNA YOU HAVE SOME AWESOME TALENT DO YOU REALLY NEED THE IMMORTAL KURT ANGLE AND HIS MAFIA. I THINK NOT. SORRY DIDN'T MEAN TO GET OFF ON THAT. THE DVD IS WORTH A LOOK BUT DON'T EXPECT TO MUCH. IN CLOSING I WOULD LIKE TO CONGRADULATE WCW ON BEING THE MOST SUCCESSFUL FAILURE OF ALL TIME. BUT AS FLAIR SAID IF THEY WOULD HAVE STAYED BETWEEN BALTIMORE AND CHICAGO JCP WOULD STILL BE AROUND TODAY

Rating: - WCW was SO much MORE!

DONT GET ME WRONG I LIKED THE DOCUMENTARY AND THE INTERVIEWS WITH FORMER WCW WRESTLERS (EVEN THE ONES POST DATED FROM 2002) IT DID A VERY GOOD JOB AT EXPLAINING HOW WCW WENT FROM A SMALL TRI COUNTY COMPANY TO A NATIONAL CLASSIC.

THE DVD STARTS TO GO DOWNHILL WHEN IT FINALLY BRINGS WCW TO THE "WCW/NWO" THAT WE ALL LOVED AND REMEMBERED. THERE WAS SO LITTLE DETAIL IN WHAT WAS GOING ON AFTER BISCHOFF REALLY STARTED RUNNING THINGS. AND ALOT MORE OF WHEN VINCE RUSSO RAN THE COMPANY INTO THE GROUND. (PERSONALLY I THINK RUSSO AND JERRET ARE THE REASONS TNA ISN'T EVERYTHING IT COULD BE)

BUT THE MATCHES INCLUDED WHERE PATHETIC! EXCLUDING A FEW (LIKE DDP VS GOLDBERG/MALENKO VS REY MYSTERYO JR) BUT THE REST DID NOT DESERVE TO BE ON A DVD SHOWING WCW'S FORMER GREATNESS.

THE SECOND DISK, THE BEGINING OF THE MATCHES WERE ALMOST ALL NOT WORTH BEING ON THE DVD. THE NWA TITLE, AND NWA STYLE DID NOT LAST IN WCW (OR TNA).

SO MANY MORE DESERVING MATCHES SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE DVD. CLASSIC'S LIKE "MYSTERYO VS NASH" OR "GOLDBERG VS ANYONE".

THERE WASNT EVEN ONE MATCH WITH STING IN THE WHITE AND BLACK PAINT, WHAT HAPPENED TO HIS DROPPING FROM THE RAFTERS? THE NWO MIND GAMES? WHITE AND BLACK VERSES RED AND BLACK?

THIS DVD MISSES A BIG CHUNK OF WCW'S HISTORY, AND THE MOST MEMORIAL TIMES IN WCW'S LIFE. ITS SOMETHING TO HAVE, BUT DISAPPOINTING TO A TRUE FAN.

This DVD doc was OK...I loved how it had little to no WWE input on why it NWA/WCW was successful/not successful....match sellection could have been way better. Are they holding Sting v. Flair Bash '90 match and the original War Games for another DVD?!?! Rise and Fall of ECW was a way better doc. Believe it or not I would of liked to have seen more of a bipartisan comparison between WWF and WCW of the 80s and 90s and the differences between the two on their approach to reach fans. Still a decent DVD worth checking out.

Another good documentary from WWE.I like the fact Jim Crockett got to speak. The match selection is so-so.There's many mathces I would've included like Sting's 1st title win at the Bash, and could I please get a Magnum T.A./Nikita U.S. title match,or how bout the whole best of 7 series WWE?The Flair/Steamboat bout is worth the purchase alone, starting their GREAT feud in the early 90's.(I have a VHS copy to DVD of ChiTown and I've noticed NWA cut out about 5 min of action & WWE cut Steamboat's entrance with the family, and the trumpets for Naitch).Overall another solid showing except for the 2 DDP bouts.
